John Miller has been following ‘The Middle of the Day’ series since the mid-1990s bringing together an ambivalent pictorial trace of everyday life.

These works are based on photographs taken between noon and 2pm, and then painted in grey-scale. Miller details each person’s individual style as a mode of social portraiture. This is further highlighted by how the shape of each painting is dictated by the contours of the pedestrian, divorced from it urban background.
