Like a magician who saws his assistant in a box apart and then puts her together wrongly afterwards, Robert Lucander creates in his paintings figures that confront the beholder as deformed and distorted creatures.

‘I bought a lot of books about magic tricks and everything to do with optical illusions and mirror effects. I played with that, and this is exactly what you see in my works.’ – Robert Lucander.
