Throughout his fifty-year career, Chuck Close created an extensive body of portraiture, including multiple depictions of his friend and fellow artist, Laurie Anderson.
Close spoke often of his admiration for Anderson, describing her as “a genius” and “one of the most intelligent and interesting people he knew.” He praised her fearless experimentation across mediums and her relentless push against the boundaries of art itself—qualities that resonated deeply with his own artistic philosophy.
