Carroll Dunham | Personal exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami

December 1, 2026 – March 14, 2027 | Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami

Carroll Dunham’s first museum survey of paintings in more than 25 years brings together over 50 works spanning from 1983 to the present, tracing the evolution of his distinctive visual language. Moving between abstraction and figuration, Dunham draws on a wide range of references—from postwar American painting and underground comics to landscapes, architecture, sexuality, violence, and art history.

The exhibition also highlights the continuous transformation of Carroll Dunham’s practice, pairing works from different periods to reveal the psychological and allegorical connections across his imagery. New paintings depicting the artist’s studio as a space of reflection bring the survey into the present, emphasizing Dunham’s ongoing search for new forms and his enduring interest in the tension between chaos, civilization, and the possibilities of creation.
