Peter Saul

Stop Kissing My Ass and Let’s Do Business, 2001

Acrylic on canvas
178 × 152.5 cm

Peter Saul’s work often sheds light on what others take for granted, whether in art, politics, or social respectability. This lends it an aura of rebelliousness that is inseparable from its insistent formal invention. He grabs hold of topical themes that would scare most artists away for being too risky, and turns them upside down:

The important thing is that a work has to have its own idea and psychology. Bad things make me laugh just as often as good things. This has been my art style for over 55 years.
