Stanley Whitney | How High the Moon

February 9 – May 27, 2024 | Buffalo Akg Art Museum, Buffalo

From early breakthroughs to mature formal experiments, ‘How High the Moon’ is the first retrospective to trace the evolution of Stanley Whitney’s wholly unique and powerful abstractions. Conveying the breadth of Whitney’s practice from the early 1970s through today, the exhibition includes the paintings, numerous drawings and prints, as well as artist’s sketchbooks. The exhibition contextualises Whitney’s practice in relation to his artistic community as well as his influences—from the history of art and architecture to quilting, textiles, and jazz.
