In Self-portraits Through Art History, Yasumasa Morimura reimagines iconic Western self-portraits by embodying figures like da Vinci, Van Gogh, and Vermeer’s subjects, blending his Japanese heritage with meticulously recreated scenes. In 2024, the artist donated seven photographs from this series to MUSAC, now exhibited alongside An Inner Dialogue with Frida Kahlo (Skull Ring) (2001), already part of the museum’s collection.
