Frank Stella | Minimal / Maximal

The Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC+) presents a major retrospective of Frank Stella (1936–2024), the first comprehensive survey of the American artist’s work to be held in a French museum since the 1980s.

Spanning nearly 1,000 m², the exhibition traces Stella’s continual reinvention of abstraction from the 1950s onward through painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and architecture. Drawing on the MAMC+ collection alongside significant loans from international institutions, the exhibition explores the artist’s formative years, his reception in France, and his dialogue with leading figures of post-war American art.
