The Populace, a new collaborative installation by Nina Beier and John Miller, transforms the underground Salling Gallery into an immersive environment where the boundaries between human and object, portrait and person, and original and reproduction become increasingly fluid. Bringing together staged mannequins and photographs of portrait paintings recovered from forgotten archives, the exhibition explores identity, authenticity, and the cultural codes that shape the way we see—and are seen. Moving between the traditions of portraiture, consumer culture, and the politics of the gaze, The Populace invites viewers to question established hierarchies of representation.
